Potato Bag Progress

The potatoes I planted are doing fabulously in the grow bags I purchased this past winter.  The directions say to add more soil when the foliage gets to be about 6"-8" tall.  Instead of soil, I added straw, which I pressed into the bags, all around the plants.  I pulled up the cuffs on the bag before adding the straw.

I watered the bag down and then added a mixture of potting soil and compost on top of the straw to help the straw decompose.  This is a method that my husband has always used when growing potatoes in the ground, and I am hoping it will work well for the bags as well.  I then watered the soil.  I'm not really sure just how much I should be watering the bags each week, so if anyone has any advice on that front I'd appreciate it.  We've only been getting rain about once a week, after a month long of rain in mid April to mid May.

As you can see, I forgot to take a picture of the bags after I added the soil on top of the straw, but I think you get the idea.  I'll take a new picture of the bags in a week or two and post more progress then.
